Where the web app runs out

Odoo is good software and its mobile interface is fine for an office. A technician is not in an office. They are in a plant room with a metre of concrete overhead, on a roof at the edge of coverage, or at a rural site where the signal comes and goes with the weather.

A browser-based interface in that environment does one of two things: it stalls waiting for a request, or it loses what was typed. Neither is acceptable when the person is holding a wrench in the other hand.

What we built instead

A React Native application — real native components on the device, not a web page in a wrapper. The technician's assigned work is downloaded before they leave. From that point the app is fully self-sufficient: jobs open, checklists complete, photos attach, signatures capture, parts and hours record, all with the device in flight mode if necessary.

When the device finds a connection again, everything reconciles into Odoo. The technician does not press sync, and does not think about it.

• Work orders assigned, scheduled and updated from Odoo
• Checklists that step through the procedure and record completion
• Photos and customer signatures captured on site
• Parts consumed and time spent recorded where they happen

How it reaches you

The app is the product; the fit is the project. We configure the job types, checklists and fields around how your service business already works, then deploy to your devices. Rugged tablets are the usual choice and the app is built to run well on them.
